Artist Statement
My Littlefield ancestors first settled in Wells, Maine in 1637 before coming to Canada. I was born a 3rd generation Canadian in Emo, ON. Growing up on a farm taught me the skill to work with my hands and find solutions. I always prefer to create my ideas in 3 dimensional form with various materials such as clay, instead of drawing or sketching. I like smooth flowing patterns to express myself and usually focus on either Figures or Abstract shapes. I have worked with bronze, stone, clay, plaster, wood, fibreglass, cement fondu and winterstone. My first sculpture was a bronze award in 1981. I created the model, mold and wax for the lost wax process. These awards are still being produced annually. I am currently focusing on sculptures using air-dry clay and cement in both cast and lay up. I enjoy creating in cement for its natural appearance, weatherability, strength with many finishes and patinas available.
